Quick Tip for Organizing Your Mac Desktop

This isn’t anything new, but I’ve been using it for so many years that I think it’s at least worth sharing.

Say you have a Mac. And on that Mac is a desktop cluttered with files.

macOS has a handy way to clean things up. All you do is right-click on the desktop and select the “Clean Up” option.

It doesn’t exactly put things in the right place. Instead, it shuffles things so they’re lined up a little neater than they were before.

So, I do something different. I actually throw all of my cluttered items into the Trash folder. I know, I know. Sounds a lot like a scene from Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead.

Stay with me for a second. Next, I do a CMD + Z to undo the trashing. And what happens? The files are all lined up nice and neat.

That’s all! Keep calm and carry on.
