Breakdown Guitar Licks

No, this isn’t related to web development or whatnot. But I’ve been trying my hand (quite literally) at lead guitar work. I started playing guitar at 14 but never learned scales or anything beyond basic chord shapes.

So, after a few videos on the ol’ YouTube, I’m learning a few of the licks from Tom Petty’s “Breakdown.”

    I love that song!

Having only played for a two-year period in my 20s, I am 100% under-qualified to judge your guitar-playing, but I think you sound great!

You’re too kind, my friend! I’m having an absolute blast, though. ????

I’m similar in that I learned chords, batbchords, but got a bit freaked out by scales.

That’s really pretty cool. You’re fret work is very decent. I don’t say that from a judgemental, technical perspective but simply, I guess, an admirable one. That is, I’ve been terrified to try my hand at learning anything new, for fear of failure or discovering simple mediocrity at best.not a nice headspace to be in. Reading RSS feeds here and there but almost every time fearing you’ll come across an article that you kinda know you probably could understand … but do not. To a certain extent, for unknown reasons, this doesn’t occur as much with CSS. perhaps because I still have some sort of belief that I’m capable enough generally and picking up new bits and pieces is a bonus. Don’t know, hard to say. Anyway, you’re continuing to learn and doing quite well if I may say so.

Apologies if this has been ‘over sharing’. Your post just … wait for it, struck a chord (ba doom boom, ching!) with me.
